Art Assemblage Artist's Susan Spencer and Michael Wilson have just opened a new art gallery featuring assemblages and collages by various artists including collagist Via Keller.
This week at “The Beat” Via Keller’s collage works have been getting a lot of attention. Her masterful use of common imagery of our popular culture has surprised our visitors inviting much comment.
Via makes her home in Anderson Valley, and her illustrations have been seen on CD covers, t-shirts, and several of her images are found in Timothy Leary’s book, Chaos & CyberCulture.
"Via is one of the best artists doing collage today utilizing mythical imagery the appeals to the senses" says Susan. "She studied under and then became friends with 'Jess' who is Jess Collins a great collagist and teacher associated with Wallace Berman's Semina and West Coast art mavericks like George Herms, Bruce Conner and Ed Kienholz found inspiration in Jess's enigmatic narrative pictures and densely layered collages". You can see his influences in her works.
Also in the Gallery you will find assemblages by owners Susan and Michael as well as Spencer Brewer's assemblage pieces featuring relics from pianos from the days he collected them at the now closed Laughing Coyote Studios but reopened as an assemblage workshop on his ranch in Redwood Valley, California. "He has a keen eye for making striking assemblages with parts from antique pianos, building rich compostions many of which work in some form" Michael says
