The mail art show in The Netherlands has piqued my curiosity. About mail art in general, I suppose. How does it work? It’s “mail" art so would you send your piece on A4 paper as they specify, folded…Continue

In case "I just make stuff" sounds too flippant (my wife says it does) let me add:
Curiosity. Adventure. Delight.

Cecil posted this link to an interview with collage artist Matthew Rose on the collage e-mail list and thought it was OK to cross-post it here.
In the interview Rose says some very interesting things about his work, his career and about working everyday.

Last weekend I took the opportunity to go to the Musee Rodin to see the exhibition Capturing the Model, Rodin, 300 Drawings from 1890 to 1917. I was surprised to see one section of the show dedicated to “Cutting Out and Assembling.”
Here is a LINK to a few featured works online, among them one cut-out.
And here are a couple of line from the…

Here's a link to an article in the New York Times about appropriation and fair use in the visual arts in a digital age. The artist, Richard Prince, lost the case in Federal District Court but is appealing.

Hi Ken. Thank you for the friendship here. I appreciate your work and a serious approach to collage. True art.

Hi, Ken, I use a couple of coats of gesso on the BFK every time. I also use a profesional grade wallpaper paste (only kind that seems to work for me) to glue BFK onto birch panels mounted on stretchers, then work on that. The most important thing for me is that the support is hard, not flexible like canvas. Otherwise, I can't get good gel medium transfers to work very well. When I work on unmounted BFK I pin in it right to the studio wall and work standing up. The panels you are using sound really good!
Beautiful pieces Ken, and love the note book!
I haven't tried that, but will investigate. It probably works just the same. The silicone sounds right anyway. I should say that even though the release paper is designed to not stick, sometime things do adhere to it. But if that happens, I just re-heat and then twist the release paper off and that usually works.
